We live in a fast-paced world full of stress and anxiety. Is it no wonder that we can feel down and depressed at times? Sadly, a lot of people deal with serious depression issues that debilitate their lives.


There are over 100 million prescriptions wrote each year for antidepressants in the U.S. That number is staggering to me. The side effects of these drugs are unbelievable, which can be almost anything from insomnia to death. If you research the side effects of antidepressants on google, you will find a list that is more than depressing in and of itself.


Unfortunately, there are also risks involved with stopping antidepressants. Many can cause withdrawal reactions that last days and sometimes longer, causing some people to feel depressed, suicidal or even violent. Stopping antidepressants should be done carefully and with experienced clinical supervision.


I am one of these people that if the sun doesn’t shine for days, I feel down and depressed. I personally refused to take drugs for this years ago and so when I began using Young Living Essential Oils, I was fascinated what the oils did for how I felt emotionally and mentally, even on those cloudy days. 


Depression may be described as a sad feeling, unhappiness, feeling blue, miserable or down in the dumps. Most of us feel this way from time to time for short periods. However, depression for a lot of people is more than just feeling down on a cloudy day. Many people suffer serious depression issues that almost nothing seems to help, not even medication. My heart goes out to you! And this is also the reason why I feel people need to know they have options to take care of themselves.


 If you are on prescribed medications, please be sure to work with your doctor if you desire to get off these drugs. It can be done. My husband was on antidepressant medication for 17 years, but has been prescription free for almost 4 years now.


Give your body the nutritional support it needs, be sure to drink lots of pure water each day. Become aware of what’s in the foods you eat and the household and body care products you use.

Another one of my favorite oils to use for depression and even just the blues, is Frankincense. This oil was actually brought as a gift to Jesus and was thought at that time and even before to cure everything from gout to a broken head.


Also, here is Dr. Gary Young’s depression formula that I use and absolutely love!

According to Dr.Young, that following will help to comfort and settle the mind.


Valor – one drop on wrists or several drops on bottom of the feet.  Valor is a beautiful oil blend that balances the energies to give courage, confidence, and self-esteem. It helps the body self-correct its balance and alignment.


Harmony – one drop over the solar plexus – above the belly button. Harmony promotes physical and emotional healing by creating a harmonic balance to the energy centers of the body. It is beneficial in reducing stress and amplifying well-being. It is also uplifting and elevating to the mind creating a positive attitude.


Joy – one drop over the heart. Joy produces a magnetic energy to bring joy to the heart. It inspires romance and helps overcome grief and depression.


White Angelica – one drop in one hand, rub the two hands together, and brush the head, face, shoulders, chest, body, down legs, (right over the clothes), as though you were brushing on an “angelic shield.”  White Angelica produces a feeling of strength, protection and security.


Apply the oils in the AM and PM or anytime they seem to be needed.


If you choose to try this protocol, be consistent and apply the oils daily. You may notice a change quickly or it may take awhile. Each person is different. But don’t give up. I have seen what the oils have done for myself and others, especially my husband!
